What is LifeBeacon?
LifeBeacon is an encrypted digital vault where you store your most important information - bank accounts, investments, property, insurance, guidance notes - and designate trusted people (trustees) who can access it if something happens to you. A proof-of-life check-in protocol makes sure your trustees are only notified when they need to be.
What happens if I don't check in?
If you miss a check-in, LifeBeacon sends you reminders. If you still don't respond after the grace period, your trustees are notified and given access to the vault information you've shared with them. You stay in control of what each trustee can see.
What is a trustee?
A trustee is someone you trust to receive your vault information if you become unreachable. This could be a partner, family member, solicitor, or close friend. Trustees cannot see your vault until the release protocol activates. You choose what each trustee can access.
How can I see what my trustees will see?
Add yourself as a trustee using your own email address. You'll receive the same invitation email a real trustee would get. Accept it, then log in at the trustee login page to see exactly what your trustees see - the same read-only view, the same layout, the same data. This is the best way to verify your vault looks right before sharing it with someone else.
Can LifeBeacon see my data?
No. Your vault is encrypted in your browser before it reaches our servers using AES-256-GCM encryption. We never have access to your encryption key. Only you can decrypt your data using your recovery phrase.
What if I lose my recovery phrase?
We cannot recover it. Your recovery phrase is the only way to decrypt your vault, and we never store it. If you lose it and aren't signed in on a trusted device, your encrypted data is permanently inaccessible. We recommend storing your recovery phrase somewhere safe and offline.
Where is my data stored?
Your encrypted data is stored on secure cloud infrastructure with encryption at rest and in transit. All connections use TLS 1.3. Even if our servers were compromised, your vault data is encrypted and unreadable without your recovery phrase.
Do you sell my data?
No. We don't sell, share, or mine your data. We don't run ads. We don't use your data for training models. Our business model is straightforward - you pay for premium features.
What's included in the free tier?
Unlimited vault items across all asset types (bank accounts, investments, property, insurance, guidance notes), end-to-end encryption, data export, 1 trustee, and a 1-week proof-of-life check-in trial so you can experience the full loop before upgrading.
What does Premium add?
Up to 5 trustees, unlimited proof-of-life check-ins with custom frequency, file attachments (10 MB per file, 500 MB total), and email support. Premium is $4.99/month or $49/year.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. You can cancel your subscription at any time. You keep Premium access until the end of your current billing period, then your account reverts to the free tier.
What happens to my trustees if I downgrade?
You keep 1 trustee. If you had multiple trustees on Premium, you'll be asked to choose which one to keep. The others will lose access.
Can I export my data?
Yes, on both tiers. You can export your vault data at any time from your account settings.
